Improve science and technology, says Education Minister

Half Assini, Dec 23, GNA - Mr Kodwo Baah Wiredu, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, has stressed the need for Ghana and Africa to improve science and technology education to produce more scientists. He said this in an address read on his behalf at the opening of the Jomoro District Science, Technology and Mathematics Education Clinic (STME), at Half Assini at the weekend.

A total of 35 girls and 15 boys from Junior and Senior Secondary Schools attended the clinic, which was on the theme, "STME in support of Scientific and Technological Transformation of Ghana".

Mr Baah-Wiredu said Africa and Ghana lacked sufficient scientists to spearhead development adding that, a good science education was the best means of addressing the problem.

He said the continent had not developed appreciably because of the shortage of scientists.

Mr Baah-Wiredu commended the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology for inventing a lantern using solar charged batteries.
