GSE index slips in active trading

Accra, July 20, GNA - The main index of the Ghana Stock Exchange slipped in active trading on Thursday, but volumes that changed hands were low. The GSE All-Share Index, the main stock index, went down by 1.7 points to 4,879.58 from 4,881.28 on Wednesday, under pressure from a loss by Guinness Ghana Breweries Limited (GGBL).

Change for the year to date was down at 2.32 per cent from 2.35 per cent.

There were six price changes, four up and two down. GGBL lost 130 cedis at 9,650 cedis and Cocoa Processing Company was poorer by three cedis at 597 cedis.

Stanchart led gainers with 1,000 cedis at 135,000, followed by Fan Milk Limited which was better by 55 cedis at 16,001 cedis. Enterprise Insurance Company gained two cedis at 8,124 cedis and ECOBANK was one cedi richer at 11,502 cedis.

Total shares traded slumped to 60,300 from 289,500 on Wednesday. Market capitalisation was down at 97,205.85 billion cedis from 97,210.93 billion cedis.
