The Deputy Ranking Member on the Communications and Information Committee, Charles Asuako Owiredu, has launched a scathing attack on the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George.
Speaking on the impasse between DStv and the minister over price reductions negotiations, Owiredu expressed the view that the minister’s posture in addressing the issue and responding to public concerns was inappropriate for someone of his status and calibre as a public servant.

According to him who is also the Abirem MP, Sam George sometimes appears to act like US President Donald Trump, arguing that while Trump could take certain actions and behave in a particular manner because he was President, the same cannot be said for the minister.
“… That's not how a leader representing government should behave. He went to Evans Mensah’s program on Joy News. Look at the demeanor, telling the host that he doesn't know where he learned comprehension. Look at the demeanor telling us, we the minority that we are incompetent. Look at his demeanor,” he condemned the action.
“Is such a person fit for purpose? Look at their president they look up to and the way he conducts himself and then look at the subordinate. Sometimes he wants to behave like Trump but unfortunately for President Trump, he's the president of the United States of America. In your case you are a minister appointed by the president so, you can't be issuing ultimatums,” Owiredu added.
Owiredu insisted that the minister’s actions were inappropriate, stressing that his issuance of ultimatums could scare off potential foreign investors and private businesses that may be interested in starting operations in the country.
“You can't be issuing threats [because] once you do that, private businesses who want to come into the country are like, what kind of system do we have in Ghana?” he said.
“… When you speak to the other ministers, they'll tell you there are issues that they have with private companies working in Ghana. If you go to the mining sector, there are a lot of mining companies who have issues but their respective ministers are meeting them behind closed doors, trying to resolve the matters. The matters don't escalate to the public domain,” he added.
