Apostolic Nuncio calls on Catholics to renew commitment to Virgin Mary

Yezu-Tang (U/W), Nov. 1, GNA - The Most Rights Reverend George Kocherry, Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana on Friday led about 2,000 Catholic faithful from the 21 parishes in the Wa diocese in a special open-air mass at Yezu-Tang in the Ko Parish to climax the end of the Rosary Year. Pope John Paul II, head of the Roman Catholic Church had declared the period October 2002 to October 2003 as the Rosary Year.

A delegation of visitors from the Diocese of Muenster in Germany, led by its Bishop Rheinhard Lettman, Bishop Jean Babtiste Kpiele-Some of Burkina Faso and the Upper West Regional Minister, Sahanun Mogtari were among the dignitaries who graced the occasion.

In a sermon, the Apostolic Nuncio said Pope John Paul II, who is an ardent follower of Virgin Mary, the Mother of Jesus Christ, declared the Rosary Year to enable Roman Catholics renew their commitment, reverence, love and respect to Virgin Mary through prayers by using the Rosary. Most Reverend Kocherry urged Roman Catholics to practice praying together in families and using the Rosary as a medium of worship.

Bishop Lettman of Muenster Diocese in Germany, who made a brief speech assured the young Wa diocese of sharing its experiences with it. The Muenster Diocese, with 660 parishes is over six centuries old he added.

The Regional Minister, Mogtari described the church as a worthy partner of government and urged the church to join in the fight against indiscipline, corruption and moral decadence inhibiting the development of the country.
