Renowned broadcaster and lawyer Samson Lardy Anyenini has corroborated claims of a murder attempt on the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, made by the Director of Research, Communications and Strategy at the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), Sammy Darko.

Sammy Darko made the claim during the December 6, 2025 edition of JoyNews’ NewsFile, hosted by Samson Lardy, where he also alleged that he was brutalised by personnel of the Ghana Police Service.

Less than 48 hours after the allegation, the Ministry of the Interior, in a statement issued on December 8, 2025, said that there had been no record of the assassination attempt against Kissi Agyebeng.

“Initial contacts with Mr Kissi Agyebeng have revealed that the assassination attempts on him, as claimed, happened before this year. There is no record or report of such threats against his life at any police station or at any of the state security agencies in the country,” it stated.

The ministry added that it was investigating the alleged assassination attempt on Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, as well as the reported police assault on Sammy Darko.

The lawyer-cum-broadcaster, during the December 13, 2025 edition of his NewsFile programme, gave details of the two alleged incidents he claimed he was privy to.

On the alleged brutalisation of Sammy Darko by the police, Samson Lardy said he witnessed the incident, which he said took place at Tesano, a suburb of the nation’s capital, Accra.

He said the OSP director was mishandled by a group of police officers during an attempted arrest.

“In October 2022, when Sammy Darko was arrested, I was a witness at Tesano. Police were called in two different vehicles to come at him because he was refusing arrest, sitting in an OSP vehicle. He was in the middle somewhere in the road, and rolled up his windows so that they could not arrest him.

“Eventually, they arrested him. He was beaten up. He was detained. I am a witness. In fact, a report was made,” he said.

Assassination attempt on OSP happened before 2025 - Interior Ministry details preliminary findings

On the alleged assassination attempt against Kissi Agyebeng, Samson Lardy indicated that the incident did happen and that a number of top security officials in the country are aware of it.

He indicated that the vehicle of the Special Prosecutor was shot at and that the assailants even thought they had succeeded in killing him.

“The OSP assassination attempt, look at how quick we are to dismiss it. But top military generals in this country know about it. Top security people knew about it at the time, at the time when his security details were being withdrawn from him.

“People have seen evidence of his vehicle, the SP vehicle, being shot at, and he was taken for dead.

“When he was not in this country, and people were complaining he was operating from abroad. Do you know how he got there? There are facts, and there are many people who know about it. Let's not be too quick to dismiss. Let's look for the evidence, and once we have the evidence, let's deal with the evidence. If you are too quick to believe everybody else, except people who are affected, that is a big problem,” he said.

He asserted the attacks on Sammy Darko and Kissi Agyebeng are not mere allegations, suggesting that these incidents happened when the OSP was investigating scams in the recruitment to some security agencies.

“I confirm to you that, yes, Sammy Darko was arrested by dozens of police officers. I have a video of it – it’s embargoed, I cannot show it. Reports of the OSP assassination, many people in this country who are at the top of the security organisations, they know that was the period when they were investigating recruitment scams, recruitment scams at the police and other places. You think it was for nothing that they were not getting support from the police and other places; there was a reason.”
