The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has urged party delegates to support former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia's presidential bid.

According to him, Dr Bawumia is the right person to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections.

In a viral video addressing party faithful, Chairman Wontumi encouraged delegates to support Dr Bawumia, despite alleged monetary influence from other aspirants in the upcoming presidential primaries.

"During the Akufo-Addo and Alan election in 2012/2014, Akufo-Addo gave you people 20 and 5 cedis, but at that time Alan said he was called Alan Cash, so he wanted to show off and gave you people money.

"Yet you voted for Akufo-Addo in that election and spent Alan Kyerematen's money for free. Do the same to the others and vote for Bawumia," he said.

Dr Bawumia will be contesting the NPP presidential primaries in January 2026.

Other contenders include Kennedy Agyapong, a former Member of Parliament, Bryan Acheampong, MP for Abetifi, Dr Osei Yaw Adutwum, MP for Bosomtwe and the party's former General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong.
