Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has vowed to take disciplinary actions against Kumasi-based Lawson TV by taking it off air over its handling of a sexual abuse case involving a 17-year-old.
Speaking on Joy FM Super Morning Show on Tuesday, August 12, the minister condemned the station for bringing a 17-year-old victim, who had allegedly endured years of sexual abuse on live television without protecting her identity.
He particularly voiced his concern over how she was placed in the same room with her alleged abuser during the airing of the Lawson Afisem show.
“When a media house puts a 17-year-old minor who has been abused sexually for ten years, meaning from when she was seven years, without taking the requisite steps to even protect her identity it is a big concern. She was put in the same room with the person who has been abusing her, and they turned the issue into public comedy,” he decried.

He disclosed that the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, will take the necessary steps to protect the rights of the minor.
“My colleague gender minister will act to protect the rights of that minor, then I would also act to take that media house off air,” he said.
He emphasised that the government is committed to public safety, especially the protection of children, and will take further measures to ensure media houses adhere to ethical standards.
