83mC Spent On Water Project In Central Region

Cape Coast, Aug. 14, -- About 83 billion cedis has been spent over the past decade on the supply of portable water and sanitation in the Central region under the national community water and sanitation programme. Mr E. T. Gaze, project co-ordinator of the Rural Water and Sanitation Programme, said this at a one-day conference for stakeholders of the water industry at Cape Coast today. He said 1,311 boreholes had been drilled in 800 communities and that the project which began in 1988 was to have been completed in 1993. The conference provided a forum for the participants to examine ways and means by which they would consolidate and sustain the modest achievements gained over the years. The co-ordinator said preparations were underway to construct kvip's and 1,000 household latrines in all the 12 districts of the region.
