School of Medical Science students give free treatment

Pokukrom (Ash), Aug. 18, GNA - Final year students of the School of Medical Science (SMS) at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) have offered free medical services and education to the people of Pokukrom, near Mankranso, in the Ahafo Ano South District.

Dr Francis Agyemang, Senior Lecturer in Chemical Pathology; led a team of 30 team of doctors for the programme that was sponsored by First Choice Computers, Ampomah Effah Pharmaceutical Company and some individuals.

Diseases treated included malaria, diabetes and piles while those diagnosed to have serious cases were referred to KATH.

Members of the team also educated the community on personal hygiene, sexually transmitted diseases and good nutrition. Dr Agyemang said the programme was to render service to the rural people, who needed treatment for very simple ailments but could not afford.

He, therefore, urged all other professionals to spare a little bit of their time to the service of the nation. Mr John Botah, Assemblyman for Pokukrom, expressed his appreciation to the team for the invaluable service rendered to the community and expressed the hope that members would continue to do so for more people to benefit.
