SC hasn’t summoned me yet – Sir John

The General Secretary of the main opposition New Patriotic Party, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, also known as ‘Sir John’ has told XYZ News, he has not been summoned to appear before the Supreme Court on Monday July 15, 2013 as claimed by some news media.

“No no no, there’s no truth in that, and I do not know where that is coming from,” he told XYZ News.

The nine–member panel of justices hearing the election petition case mentioned ‘Sir John’ as one of two people wanted by the Court for passing contemptuous remarks about the hearing.

Mr. Owusu Afriyie, however, insists he did not hear the Court mention his name.

He told XYZ News he has not received any summons from the Court yet, but says he will honour any such invitation.

According to Sir John, “as far as I do know, I have not been summoned yet by the Supreme Court; if they will do so let us wait till we get there”.

He added that: “…If their Lordships invite you to appear, to refuse to appear will itself amount to contempt and you will be arrested for not taking that summons with all seriousness, so if their Lordships decide that I should be hauled before them for contempt, why not…there’s no way that I’m going to defy their Lordships if and when they decide to call me”.
