Ridge Hospital Incident: Minority Health Caucus condemns Ralph's actions

The Minority Health Caucus in Parliament has strongly condemned the actions of social media activist Ralph St Williams, following a dramatic confrontation at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital on Monday, August 18, 2025.

A video of the incident, which has been widely circulated online, shows Ralph storming the emergency ward in the company of several men.

In the footage, he is seen shouting aggressively at health professionals, filming patients and staff without their consent and disrupting hospital operations.

The footage sparked intense public debate, with some criticising hospital response times while many others decried the activist’s conduct as reckless and disrespectful.

In a statement released on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, the Minority Health Caucus described the behaviour as “unlawful, reckless, and deeply inconsiderate,” stressing that hospitals are spaces of care and confidentiality, not arenas for “political theatrics.”

The Caucus said the intrusion not only violated the privacy of patients but also undermined the dignity of hardworking health professionals.

The statement also drew attention to Ralph’s recent history of confrontations, including a public altercation with a minority MP, which required police intervention.

The Caucus further expressed concern over his reported cordial ties with the Health Minister, warning that the government’s silence on such conduct risked emboldening partisan intimidation.

On behalf of the Minority Health Caucus, Ranking Member Dr Nana Ayew Afriye apologised to hospital staff, patients and visitors affected by the disruption, while reaffirming support for frontline health workers.

The group has called on the Ghana Police Service to investigate the matter and for the Health Minister to set up a joint parliamentary inquiry to prevent future occurrences.

“The sanctity of our health facilities must be preserved at all times,” the statement concluded, urging political actors to refrain from compromising patient care for partisan ends.
