People of Atti Mokwaa initiate projects

Mokwaa (C/R), March 19, GNA - The chiefs and people of Atti Mokwaa Traditional Area in the Twifu-Hemang-Lower-Denkyira District, are spending a total of 930 million cedis on projects to accelerate the development of the area.

The projects are a Traditional Council Hall Complex estimated at 580 million cedis and a Community Centre valued at 350 million cedis. The Community centre would have a Post Office and a Day Care Centre when completed. Nana Kwesi Kenny III, Omanhene of the area, said this at a durbar at Mokwaa on Saturday, to highlight activities marking the annual 'Addae Kese' festival.

He said the projects would be financed with royalties from timber concessions in the area, fund raising activities and voluntary contribution. The District Assembly has provided 350 bags of cement and a quantity of iron rods for the Community Centre, which has reached the foundation level.

Nana Kenny said the people with the assistance of the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) and the Adventist Relief Agency (ADRA), have constructed a 200 million-cedi clinic.

The people contributed 60 million cedis in addition to communal labour. Nana Kenny appealed to the District Chief Executive to intervene in a dispute between the youth of the area and that of Twifu-Mampong Traditional Area, which is threatening peace.

He appealed for the extension of electricity, improved water supply and the rehabilitation of roads to enhance development. The Central Regional Minister, Mr Jacob Arthur, stressed the importance of the Population and Housing Census and the re-opening of the Voters Register.

He urged the people to return the NDC to power in the general elections to enable the party to continue with its development programmes. The Regional Minister assured the people that steps are being taken to rehabilitate roads in the area and to extend electricity as soon as practicable.

Otumfuo Amoa Sasraku III, Omanhene of Twifu-Hemang Traditional Area, suggested that the re-naming of the district from Twifu-Hemang-Lower-Denkyira to Twifu District, to demonstrate the unity between the people of the three traditional areas.
