A protest by some disgruntled nurses and midwives over their nine to ten months of unpaid salaries has escalated into a political row, with a nurse directly accusing the Member of Parliament for Bantama, Francis Asenso-Boakye, of indifference to their plight.

The accusation stems from a viral video that captured a moment during the ongoing protest.

The unnamed nurse alleged that the Bantama MP told her and her colleagues that if their frustration over unpaid salaries would cause them not to vote for the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, they should simply refrain from doing so.

In the video posted on X by EDhub on October 2, 2025, the protesting nurse expressed her shock at the MP's purported statement.

“… As I speak, my NSS allowance was never paid. My MP told me that if my colleagues and I don’t want to vote because of the unpaid salaries, then we can decide not to vote. I can mention his name; he is Hon Asenso-Boakye, the MP for Bantama. He told me that,” the nurse alleged.

The protest itself is a culmination of months of financial hardship faced by nurses and midwives, who are demanding immediate payment of up to ten months' worth of arrears.

However, in a sharp rebuttal on his Facebook page on Thursday, October 2, 2025, Asenso-Boakye described the claims as ‘false, baseless and propaganda’.

He denied having any such encounter with the said lady or any nursing student regarding issues of unpaid allowances.
