Policeman Placed In Custody

A policeman who is alleged to have shot a 24-year old commercial driver, Kwabena Boateng on the Teshie Nungua in Accra road last week has been arrested and placed in police custody pending further investigations. The driver was killed in cold blood by the policeman who was escorting a bullion van. The family of the driver has accused the police of killing the victim and is demanding that justice be served.

Police Commissioner, Dr K. K. Marfo who is in charge of National Operations explained on national television that further investigations are being conducted by the police because the Policeman’s version of what happened is at variance with the account of the driver’s mate, Yaw Coffie.

Yaw Coffie told JOY News that although his master obeyed an order to make way for a bullion van, they were later accosted by a second police team, which was apparently part of the escort. Despite his master’s apologies, one of the police officers seated at the back of the escort van fired his gun, killing Kwabena Boateng on the spot. The police are withholding the Policeman’s identity until investigations are concluded.
