Union To Integrate Power Grids In Africa

Accra (GAR) - The Union of Producers, Conveyors and Distributors of Electrical Energy in Africa (UPDEA) is to interconnect the electricity grids of African countries. The interconnection is to ensure an equal sharing of power by linking regions with inadequate power to those with excess supply. These were made known at a news conference in Accra today by Mr. Moukouri Moulema, Technical Adviser to Sonnel, an energy agency in Cameroon and one of the delegates attending the 26th UPDEA congress in Accra. The five-day congress, hosted by the Volta River Authority (VRA) and the Electricity Company of Ghana, is being attended by delegates from the 32 member states including Ghana, Togo, Benin, Senegal, Nigeria and Algeria. Mr. Moulema said UPDEA is working to get all African countries represented on the union.
