The family of a pregnant woman who died along with her unborn triplets at the Koforidua Central Hospital are threatening to sue for negligence if hospital authorities fail to disclose the circumstances which led to their death.
The woman, Prisca Soji, was referred from the Suhum Government Hospital in the Eastern Region to the Regional Hospital in Koforidua for delivery.
However, the Caesarean Section performed on her went wrong, resulting in the death of the mother and her three babies on Friday, 18 May 2018.
The family is accusing the nurses and doctors of negligence.
They claim the doctor created a deep incision during the surgery and ended up slashing the babies in the process.
The account of the family has not been verified by hospital authorities.
Uncle of the deceased woman told Ghana Yensom on Accra100.5FM on Monday, 21 May 2018 that: “The staff are very wicked, they treat patients badly. Most people sent to the facility rather go there to die… We want authorities to intervene. If authorities don’t step in, the case will be sent to court.”
Meanwhile, the hospital is demanding an autopsy be done on the deceased to unravel the circumstances for the deaths. The family are, however, sceptical of an autopsy.
“We have not authorised any autopsy, so, why is the hospital keen on carrying out the post-mortem?”, the widower, Mawuli Alato said.
