"Armed soldiers attack buduburam...

They threaten to blow housewife's head off",

is the gruesome headline on the front page of the Chronicle. The accompanying story says in spite of all the ceremony and media spotlight surrounding its determination to deal with lawlessness in the country, the Police Administration appears incapable of arresting a group of heavily armed soldiers from the Military Police who descended on Gomoa Buduburam to terrorise the family of the Bamfos, popular in the community for their entrepreneurial spirit.

The Chronicle says in the wee hours of September 29, six heavily armed soldiers from the dreaded Military Police unit 'landed' at Buduburam, a village near Kasoa on the Accra-Winneba road, split into two groups and invaded the homes of the Bamfo family, their fingers on their AK 47 triggers. According to the paper, with just one furious kick each from their boots, the first group broke down the metal gates of Mr Isaac Bamfo, one of the 'wanted' men. The Chronicle says following up kicks broke down the doors of his three-bedroom house, adding that what followed was a frantic search for Mr Bamfo, after which the invading soldiers spent 30 minutes vandalising the house, and finally cursing their intended victim when they realised to their chagrin that he might have slipped away. The Chronicle reports in its centre spread that the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi will have a new look by February, next year, when renovation works currently going on are completed. The renovation being funded with the hospital's resources, is to upgrade the quality of service there and make life of the patients more comfortable, even in the face of congestion. GRI

In another centre spread story, the Member of Parliament for Manhyia, Dr Kwame Addo Kufuor has advocated for the establishment of a post-graduate medical college in Ghana to enhance medical research. He said such an institution will help to organise basic research and prepare doctors professionally as well as serve as a check on the brain-drain of doctors. Dr Kufuor who is the Shadow Minister of Health, said the proposed medical college will help reduce the high rate of failures in the medical field. GRI
