The Ashanti Regional Police Command has retrieved an amount of five hundred and eighty thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢580, 000.00) belonging to the Asankare Cocoa Purchasing Depot at Adomfe-Asante Akyim from two armed robbers after a shoot-out with the police.

The robbery according to the police took place over the weekend during the Easter festivities.

Speaking in an interview with Ultimate News’ Isaac Justice Bediako, the Ashanti Regional Police PRO, ASP Nketia Yeboah explained that the motor bike of the robbers developed a puncture after robbing the cocoa buying company.

They therefore seized a Daewoo taxi with registration number GG 669-14 at a gun point and forced the driver identified as Wofa Yaw to help them escape but the taxi hit an object resulting in an accident.

The driver in an attempt to run away was shot and killed by the armed robbers on the spot.

The two robbers then seized another taxi Opel Astra bearing registration number AS 5856-12 at gun point at the outskirts of Adomfe.

The robbers veered off the road and ran the taxi into a house by the roadside at Adomfe in their haste.

The police patrol team then arrived at the scene and engaged the robbers in a shoot-out.

The police killed the two robbers in the process and also retrieved the money.

The bodies of the taxi driver and the two robbers have been deposited at Steward mortuary in Juaso whiles police investigations continue.
