Alliance Francaise organises art exhibition at KNUST

Kumasi, Feb 7, GNA- The Alliance Francaise in collaboration with the Department of Painting and Sculpture of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is organising a 10-day international art workshop at the University in Kumasi.

The workshop dubbed: "Sansa" is part of the family triangle workshops founded by Robert Loder, a British patron of the arts and sculptor Anthony, aimed at giving artists the opportunity for periods of time to work alongside artists from around the world.

A statement issued in Kumasi by the Alliance Francaise, said among the 15 international artists who were participating in the workshop, which began on January 30, included Kwame Akoto, Kevin Amankwah and Felix Annor Anim, all from Ghana.

The statement said "Sansa", which was derived from Asante word "Nsansaa" and Ewe "Sasa", was based on a concept of many pieces of different cloth that are stitched together to form a larger one. It said the blend of artists from different countries at the workshops reflected a diversity of approaches to art, encompassing street painting, international and indigenous art practices as a means of encouraging innovative use of local materials.
