Institute Legal Action Against GFA

The Council of National Circles of Kumasi Asante Kotoko Supporters Union, has called on the management of the club and the legal advisors of Charles Taylor to institute legal action against the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and call for the suspension of the Premier League until the dud cheque issue has been resolved.

The circles council noted that the delay in the release of investigations conducted by the GFA could be interpreted to mean that there was an attempt to deny Kotoko and Taylor justice, pointing out that, "justice delayed is justice denied".

A statement issued in Kumasi and signed by Mr. Godfred Boateng, secretary to the Council of the National Circles, said on August 1, this year, Mr. Kofi Nsiah, Secretary of the GFA in a press release titled "Player Charles Taylor", said the GFA had almost finished with the investigation into the dud cheque issue involving Charles Taylor's contract with Hearts and would inform the general public of the outcome as soon as possible.

Two months after the release, the statement said nothing had been heard, compelling the council and followers of Kotoko to believe that "our club and player Taylor are being denied justice".

The statement said GFA Chairman, Mr. Ben Koufie told Ghanaians that the report had been referred to the legal committee of the GFA and that as soon as the chairman of the committee, Mr. Douglas Djarbeng returned from abroad, the report would be made public.

"Our painstaking investigation has revealed that Mr. Djarbeng has returned over a month while Mr. Koufie is still around, yet nothing is being said about the issue", the statement said.

The National Circles Council, therefore, challenged Mr. Koufie to have the report published to vindicate him.

The council also called on the Minister of Education, Youth and Sports to step in and resolve the matter in the interest of Ghana soccer.
