Persons claiming Ibrahim Mahama is witch-hunted are ‘mad’ - Lawyer

Those who believe that Mr. Ibrahim Mahama, a brother of ex-President John Mahama and Chief Executive Officer of Engineers and Planners is being witch-hunted by the government have no heads on top of their bodies to think, a private legal practitioner has asserted.

“Can we put the silly notion of witch-hunting aside because we are living in 2017? Assuming I say I don’t even like you and say you should go to jail, does it mean you are going to be hauled straight and go to jail?, private legal practitioner, Kwame Adofo asked Lantam Papanko host of Ultimate FM’s morning show.

“You will have to be put before the court. Once you get to the court there is presumption that you are innocent and it is the duty of state prosecutors or the government lawyers to come and prove you guilty".

“Some people mumble words without thinking through. How can you say because Kennedy Agyepong does not like Ibrahim Mahama he is witch-hunting him”

“I think that is silly. Anybody who talks this way has no head on top of the body. Witch-hunting has no place in Ghana”.

"Kennedy Agyepong cannot put Mahama into prison….. He does not have the power. It is up to the police to prove evidence for court to jail him if he is found guilty of any offense”.

“Anybody who therefore says Ibrahim Mahama is being witch-hunted is just not thinking well. If you have committed an offense pay for it to serve as deterrent to those standing by watching.”

Ibrahim Mahama, who is the brother of former President John Mahama, is at the centre of an import scandal after being invited by Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

He was subsequently ordered to pay GH¢12.7m to the Ghana Revenue Authority by May 8, 2017.

The amount represents duty for goods he cleared at the Tema Port with the said dud cheques in 2015 plus interest. The interest on the amount was worked by the Ghana Revenue Authority
