Herbert Mensah For Hearts

Football is a game that has consistently defied logic and all manner of predictions. Infact,it continues to evoke passions and sometimes a level of euphoria beyond our imagination. Otherwise it would have been senseless for anyone to predict that a former CEO of Kotoko would cross carpet to their bitter rivals Accra Hearts of Oak. But if Luis Figo, after swearing thunder and brimestone finally left Nou Camp for Bernabau, what else is not possible in football.

At long last, what many described as the machinations of the rumour mongers is fast gaining credence. The latest officialdom who gave insight into the talks currently going on between Hearts and the football tycoon, Herbert Mensah is Randy Abbey.

In an exclusive interview with a Sunyani-based radio station, Space FM, the affable PRO of Accra Hearts Of Oak,hinted that the former league champions have reached advanced stage in their negotiations with Herbert to take up a role in the rebulding process of Hearts of Oak.“The bottom line of the matter is that Hearts are in advanced talks with Herbert and his SOS nertwork to take up a management or consultancy position“,he stated.

According to Randy Abbey, football has reached a professional stage where football adminitrators are free to move from one club to another just as ?xodus of players from one club to another has come to stay with us.

The stakeholders of Hearts of Oak have left no stone unturned since the end of the league in their bid to restructure and strengthened the team to recapture the league trophy next season. One of such moves is to get a top football administrator with business acumen, hence talks with Herbert. It is believed that a very close friend, Harry Zackour who himself has been tipped to head the Board when Ato Ahwoi relingushes his position is the brainchild of the move to capture that giant fish.

Herbert was vitually unknown in the sports fraternity until his SOS network organized a rugby match to raise money for chairty which the former goaltender of Hearts, Ali Jahraa was one of the beneficiaries. But since breaking in football in 1999 as the CEO of Kotoko, the flamboyant and charismatic administator has made huge impact in Ghanaian football. His ability to lure big companies into sponsorship cannot be doubted. He is fondly remembered for his initiative in the Spacefon- Kotoko deal.

Last year, he made headlines when he entered into marriage with Alhaji Grunsah. His presence injected some energy into the team which made Faisal one of top sides in the league, ending on a respectable third spot.
