Farmer on remand for defiling 12-year-old girl

Koforidua, July 14, GNA - A Koforidua circuit court has remanded a 57 years old farmer at Akim-Tafo, in the Eastern Region in prison custody for allegedly defiling a 12 years old primary school pupil. The accused, Kwadwo Frimpong, pleaded not guilty to the charge of defilement and the court, presided over by Mr G.S Suurbaareh, adjourned the case to August 1.

Police Chief Inspector T.K Nyadu told the court that Frimpong, who has a palm plantation at Tafo, near Koforidua, had been supplying the victim's mother with some of his produce.

He said on September 14, 2001, Frimpong saw the victim defecating in the bush and asked her to accompany him to his farm that was a few metres away.

On their way, Frimpong told the victim to stop and he undressed her and forcibly defiled her.

The Prosecutor said in the course of the act, a Witness in the case saw them but Frimpong got hold of the victim and run away with her. He said the Witness then informed the victim's parents, who reported to the Police and Frimpong was arrested.
