Disabled Association Want To Be Represented On Council Of State

Wa, Aug 12, -- The Ghana Association for the Blind (GAB) today called for representation of the disabled on the Council of State. The association contended that the problems of the disabled does not consist in the provision of social welfare services alone. ''It is more of an issue of human rights and as such, our voices need to be heard in the high institutions of state''. Mr Eleazer Plahar, the Director of GAB, said this at a five-day workshop for the blind and visually impaired organized by GAB for 23 participants drawn from Wa and Nadowli Districts in the Upper West Region at Wa. The workshop, sponsored by the Swedish Organisation of Handicapped International Aid Foundation (SHAID), seeks to develop the awareness and skills of participants to facilitate their integration into the society and enabling them to be economically self-reliant. Alhaji Amidu Sulemana, Upper West Regional Minister, in a speech read on his behalf, said the government will create the necessary environment for the disabled to realise their full potential.
