Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced that Passport Application Centres in all six newly created regions are set for commissioning this December.

This, he said, marks a historic first in Ghana, as every region will now have its own centre, bringing passport services closer to citizens.

In a Facebook post on December 7, 2025, Ablakwa stressed that Ghanaians will no longer have to travel long hours to another region just to have their biometrics captured.

“This is the first time in Ghana’s history that all regions will have their own Passport Application Centres,” he noted.

Ablakwa recalled that Sunday December 7, 2025, also marks exactly one year since Ghanaians overwhelmingly voted to reset the country.

“We are determined to create that new Ghana and never to take your massive support for granted,” he said.

Ablakwa highlighted that he has kept his promise of establishing seven new Passport Application Centres this year in regions that previously lacked them.

These centres are expected to greatly improve accessibility and convenience for citizens across the country.

In addition to the expansion, the Ministry has reduced the passport application fee by 30 percent, bringing it down from GH¢500 to GH¢350.

Ablakwa said this move aims to make passport acquisition more affordable for ordinary Ghanaians.

He further noted that the timing of the announcement is fortuitous, as Ghanaian football fans from all over the country prepare to travel to the United States and Canada to support the Black Stars.

The new centres will ensure that fans can secure their travel documents more easily ahead of international fixtures.
