A group calling itself the Federation of Gender and Development Network International has petitioned the Privileges Committee of Parliament to summon and sanction lawmaker for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, for dragging the name of the legislature into disrepute.
The maverick minority MP alleged that the chairperson of the Electoral Commission Charlotte Osei exchanged sex for her position. The comments subsequently attracted criticism and calls from religious and professional bodies for an apology to Osei.
The MP is alleged to have, however, rubbished such calls.
But the Federation of Gender and Development Network International says the “dishonorable” MP must be sanctioned by parliament.
The Executive Secretary of the federation Ajara Muhammed says, “we ultimately want the privileges committee of parliament to investigate this dishonorable Member of Parliament, Kennedy Agyapong and find appropriate sanctions to stop his endless attack on women in this country”.
The federation argues that “these comments seek to tarnish women integrity in society, they also discourage women from accepting national duties and taking part in decision-making process for the development of our nation”.
