PPP dismisses NPP alliance ahead of 2016 elections

The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has dismissed reports that it is in talks with the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for an alliance ahead of the 2016 elections.

The Daily Dispatch Newspaper Wednesday reported that the leadership of the Nkrumahist party has already commenced talks, behind closed doors, with the NPP for a possible collaboration to wrestle power from the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in next year’s elections.

Reacting to the report on Morning Starr Wednesday, the General Secretary of the PPP Kofi Asamoah said the party has not been approached by the NPP for any such talks.

“From where I sit, we are not privy to any such invitation to engage in a discussion towards an alliance with the NPP ahead of the 2016 elections.

“It is early days yet but we have not been approached on this matter and we don’t know if it’s part of the NPP’s strategy towards the 2016 elections,” Asamoah told Bernard Nasara Saibu.
