Moderate Trading Ends Week Of Active Business On Exchange

Trading closed moderately high, boosted by massive gains in five equities on Friday as investors rallied for more shares. Overall shares traded pegged slightly higher at 496,320, a new high from Wednesday's 426,440. The GSE All-Share Index thus rose significantly by 5.22 points to close the week at 475.88 points, up from 469.66 points posted at the last trading. However, demand was still high at 12.9 million shares while offers stood at a low of 910,820 shares. Market capitalisation also appreciated to 2,919.11 billion cedis, up from a previous 2,900.90 billion cedis. On the broader market, five equities registered gains while one lost. Ashanti Goldfields Company (AGC) defied this mornings' sharp fall in world gold price to lead the pack again with a 100 cedis gain, the third time during the week. It closed the week at a new price of 21,100 cedis. Gold closed trading today at the London Stock Exchange at 325 dollars, down from yesterday's 330 dollars an ounce. Enterprise Insurance Company (EIC) hicked by high share demand, was up 20 cedis to finish at 670 cedis while Guinness Ghana Limited (GGL) sustained the influence of the beer industry on the Exchange with a huge 60 cedi-gain to end the week at 590 cedis. Fan Milk Limited (FML) continued the modest gains it has being registering over the past two weeks following the release of impressive half-year results. The equity made 15 cedis to end at 515 cedis. Mechanical Lloyd Company was up eight cedis to 195 cedis. The only loser today was UNILEVER (UNIL) which dipped five cedis to finish trading at 935 cedis.
