Proceedings at the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Wednesday August 20, 2025, were disrupted after officials from the Council of State and the Office of Government Machinery arrived late to a scheduled hearing.

The delay, which lasted over 30 minutes, was caused by the late arrival of the Chief Director of the Office of Government Machinery, Alhaji Abubakar Wayo.

His absence temporarily halted the session, prompting sharp criticism from the committee, chaired by Abena Osei-Asare.

When he eventually appeared, Alhaji Wayo explained that he had been attending to other official duties. The committee, however, expressed disappointment, stressing that heads of entities are required to be present for such sittings.

“Please take the Public Accounts Committee seriously! Dr Wayo has been in this system for God knows how long. You are supposed to appear here with your head – and the letter we wrote to you was very clear. Wherever he is, he has to come for us to continue with the proceedings. That is part of his mandate as Chief Director,” Abena Asare stated.

The Council of State delegation also appeared before the committee later than scheduled, citing engagements with their newly appointed Acting Executive Secretary. They apologised for the delay and pledged to avoid a recurrence.

The committee emphasised that such conduct undermines the work of Parliament and urged officials to accord its proceedings the necessary seriousness.
