Pollster Ben Ephson believes it is only the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Akufo-Addo who can calm tempers as the party goes through crisis.
The main opposition party is in a state of mourning following the killing of its Upper East regional chairman Adams Mahama by two unknown assailants on Wednesday near his residence.
Fingers are pointing at national chairman Paul Afoko and general secretary Kwabena Agyepong due to the frosty relationship that existed between the late regional chairman and the duo.
According to Ephson, the three-time presidential candidate of the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition is the only person who the incensed party supporters will listen to.
“The only person who can help calm tempers and save the NPP is Nana Akufo-Addo,” the Managing Editor of the Daily Dispatch newspaper said on Ephson’s File on Starr 103.5FM, Friday.
He warned: “If they put impediments on his way ‘wahala’ [trouble] for them.”
Akufo-Addo had to cut short his 16-day Europe trip to return to Ghana to salvage the murky situation. He is expected to touch down in Ghana Friday evening.
