One killed as speeding vehicle crashes into shop at Ketan

One person has been reportedly killed, while another is receiving treatment at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital after a speeding vehicle crashed into a dressmaking shop at Ketan in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis of the Western Region.

According to a report by 3news.com, the incident happened on March 18, 2026.

“The deceased has been identified as 21-year-old Emelia Inkoom, a graduate of the Diabene Senior High Technical School who was undergoing apprenticeship at the shop.

“The injured victim, 22-year-old Mercy Oparebea, a final-year SHS student of the same school who is also on attachment at the shop, is currently receiving treatment at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital and is reported to be in a stable condition," it noted.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver, who was speeding, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the shop.

The report noted that at the time of the incident, the victims were sewing in front of the shop.

“I received a call around 5 PM yesterday about the incident. I rushed to the scene and realised that a pickup vehicle had crashed into a dressmaking shop. Two apprentices at the shop were severely affected and were rushed to the Essikadu Government Hospital, where Mercy Oparebea was pronounced dead.

“The other victim is currently receiving treatment at the Effia Nkwanta Hospital and is now in stable condition. The body of the deceased has been deposited at the mortuary. Eyewitnesses at the scene alleged that the driver was drunk, which may have caused the crash. The area is a community where drivers are not expected to drive at such high speeds to cause this kind of accident,” Assembly Member for Ketan, Mingle Kasum, narrated.
