"I too am a Nima Boy" - Jake

While Mr. Jake Obetsebi Lamptey’s “Big Task” was in the press yesterday, he was already on his new beat visiting the huge sprawling deprived conurbation of Nima.

Echoing President Kennedy’s famous “Ich binein Berliner”, he surprised a large NPP gathering at Nima when he told them what many of them did not know about himself.

“I too am a Nima Boy”.

The Tourism and Modernisation of the Capital City Minister told them he had his primary education in the Zongo community and this drew him closer to the people.

The most starting aspect of his encounter with them was the unwritten covenant he entered into with them, which in a way gave a glimpse of a part of the new ministry’s roles.

Jake explained that his covenant with the people of Nima entails the engagement of the Nima youth in the execution of development and modernization programmes intended to better their lot.

“We need to do Allah’s work so that Nima youth would stop doing dirty work for politicians and Nima would became a better place. I pray that the covenant bears good fruits”.

This he said amidst an ovation from his audience.

The function was organised by the NPP constituency executives to discuss among other things the issue of polling agents and to present the four aspiring candidates for the 2004 parliamentary elections to a cross section of the party faithful.
