Kwaku Baah in court for assault

Accra, Jan. 19, GNA - Kwaku Baah, a legal practitioner, on Thursday appeared before the City Engineers Magistrate's Court on two charges of assault and causing damage.

Jointly charged with him was Alberta Coffie, a businesswoman. They pleaded not guilty to assaulting Miss Evelyn Mantey, a 34-year old hairdresser.

The court presided over by Miss Audrey Edem Kokuvi Tay granted each of them bail in the sum of 10 million cedis and ordered them to re-appear on February 2.

The facts of the case as narrated to the court by Chief Inspector Robert Owusu were that at about 1330 hours on November 12 2005, the accused persons attacked Miss Mantey in her salon at Sakaman. Chief Inspector Owusu said Miss Mantey fell down and became unconscious after the assault.

The Prosecution stated that additionally, the accused persons also damaged the trap door to the salon.

Consequently, she reported the matter to the Police and the accused persons were picked up, Chief Inspector Owusu said. 19 Jan. 06
