Providing an update, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) on Thursday, November 13, 2025, said that the adjournment followed the reassignment of the case.
The OSP also indicated that prosecutors have filed additional charges against the accused.
“The Criminal Division of the High Court has adjourned to 9 December 2025 the taking of plea in the case involving Mustapha Hamid and nine (9) others, who are facing charges of extortion and money laundering.
“The adjournment follows an administrative reassignment of the case from Criminal Court 3 to Criminal Court 4 after prosecutors filed additional charges, increasing the counts from 25 to 54,” the OSP shared on Facebook.
Explaining why the hearing did not proceed as planned, the OSP stated that it was because the new court, Criminal Court 4, had an available date of December 9, 2025, to which the case has been adjourned.
The OSP also disclosed that a motion filed by Abdul-Hamid seeking the release of his passports, which were seized as part of his bail conditions, was not brought before the court.
“Today’s hearing could not proceed as planned because the new court has rescheduled the matter to its next available date, 9 December,” it said.

“Meanwhile, the first accused, Mustapha Hamid, could not move his application for the release of his passport owing to the change in court. He may move the application on the next adjourned date. His motion relates to travel plans to Canada between 17 and 23 November 2025 to attend an alleged political event,” the OSP added.
Dr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid filed an application in court seeking the release of his passport to enable him to undertake an urgent political assignment in Canada.
