18 cocaine and India hemp suspects arrested

Agona Swedru, March 1, GNA - The Swedru Divisional Police Command on Sunday arrested suspected criminals and narcotic drug pushers and users in Agona Swedru. A total of 17 men and a woman were arrested in the afternoon swoop Mahodwe and Dwenho suburbs of Swedru.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Thomas Osei, Swedru Divisional Police Commander told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Swedru on Monday that the Police Command undertook the exercise following reported cases of theft. He said the police personnel were drawn from Awutu Bawjiase, Winneba, Apam, Nyakrom and Mankrong-Junction to undertake the four hours operation.

ACP Osei said when suspects were searched, 122 rappers of a white substance suspected to be cocaine, 63 parcels of Indian hemp and five long bones suspected to be human skeleton were retrieved from them. Also retrieved were alcoholic drinks said to be India Hemp bitters. ACP Osei disclosed that the exercise would be carried out periodically to rid the area of criminals to ensure that life and property were safeguarded. The Divisional Commander said the suspects would be arraigned before the Agona Sweru Magistrate Court on Tuesday.
