Nine persons trapped in Konongo mining pit collapse

Nine miners have been trapped following the collapse of a mining pit at Konongo in the Ashanti Region.

The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday, May 13, 2026 in the evening while the miners were working underground.

According to a report by adomonline.com on May 15, 2026, the pit suddenly caved in, cutting off their exit route and leaving them stranded beneath layers of debris.

“The collapse triggered an immediate emergency response, with fellow miners and local rescue teams rushing to the scene to begin rescue efforts although no one had been rescued as of the time of this report,” the report said.

The Asante Akim Central Municipal Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Lanbon Joseph, confirmed the incident.

He noted that efforts were underway to locate and rescue the trapped workers.
