Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has launched investigations into the cause of a fire outbreak that has destroyed parts of the Monte Carlo pub at Tema Community 10.

Tema Regional PRO Ebenezer Yenzu said five fire appliances were deployed to fight the blaze after a distress call came in shortly after 7:00 am on Friday, May 15, 2026, myjoyonline.com reported.

The first unit from the Motorway Fire Station arrived to find the fire intense and immediately called for backup.

Two more appliances came from the Industrial Area and Tema Regional Headquarters, followed by support from Ashaiman and New Town Fire Stations.

“Even before they got there, looking at the smoke and how the fire was blazing, they called for assistance,” an official said.

Firefighters said the rapid spread made containment difficult, but they managed to stop it from reaching adjoining buildings.

“We had to ensure it does not affect adjoining buildings,” an official said.

The fire was brought under control around 7:40 am and fully extinguished at 9:34 am. While the Monte Carlo pub suffered extensive damage, an adjacent restaurant was also affected, and a restaurant at the rear was partially impacted.

Firefighters were able to salvage two office spaces, including a safe retrieved from the scene.

GNFS said personnel will remain on site to secure the area and begin investigations, warning the public not to tamper with evidence.

“We are cordoning off the place so that nobody interferes with the investigation,” the official said.

There were no casualties recorded as of the time of filing this report.
