Nii Ankrah elected Greater - Accra GPRTU Chairman

Mr Emmanuel Nii Ankrah, Chairman of the Odorkor branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), was on Wednesday elected as the Greater-Accra Regional Chairman of the Union, in a keenly contested election at the Arts Centre in Accra.

Nii Ankrah polled a total of 244 votes to beat Mr Robert Sarbah, the incumbent chairman, who secured 204 votes.

By this victory, Nii Ankrah, and three other executive members who contested un-opposed, are going to steer the affairs of the Union for the next four years.

The three were: Alhaji iddrisu Tetteh who contested for the Vice Chairmanship position,

Mr Emmanuel Kwakuvie (First Trustee) and Mr Jacob Odai (second Trustee).

Giving his impressions after the election, Alhaji E A Tetteh, a former Regional Chairman of the GPRTU and currently the Kpone-Katamanso District Chief Executive, told the Ghana News Agency that the keen contest showed how dynamic and united members of the Union were.

Alhaji Tetteh urged the rank and file of the union to remain united in order to fight for a common goal

Mr Stephen Okudzeto, General Secretary of the GPRTU, who swore the new executives into office urged them to abide by the constitution of the Union, to help move it forward.

Mr Ankrah, Chairman-elect, pledged not to lord it over members, but to work with humility, assuring them that his doors were always opened for dialogue on Union matters.

The election was supervised by officials from the Electoral Commission.
