New NIA 'Ghana card', an "evil scam" - IMANI boss

The President of policy think tank, IMANI Ghana, Franklin Cudjoe has described the decision by the National Identification Authority (NIA) to issue new ID cards to Ghanaians as a “scam and evil”. “This thing is murder...everything about this new NIA card is so evil”.

The NIA has secured $115 million loan facility for the new cards. The old ones, which were produced at a cost of GH¢21 million to the State, are to be retrieved.

The government through its Deputy Communications Minister has said it is unaware of the decision by the NIA.

Ato Sarpong told Starr News that “it was not a government decision. Government has not heard of the facility and did not approve it”.

But speaking on Accra-based private radio station, Citi Fm on Saturday, Cudjoe called on President Mahama to immediately halt the decision by the NIA.

He added if President Mahama wants to leave an enviable legacy, then he must quickly order the NIA to reverse its decision to “waste” 115 million dollars to re-register Ghanaians.

“If President Mahama wants to leave a legacy that is enviable...please Mahama stop this thing now”.
