Los Angeles Airport Authority To Cooperate With GCAA

Accra, (Greater Accra) 10 Nov. A four-member delegation from the Los Angeles World Airport Authority today met the management of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) to explore areas in which they could offer assistance to the GCAA. They identified airport operation and management, security and airport information systems as areas of interest during their discussions. The delegation which will explore areas of investment and cooperation comprises, Dr. Warren W. Dahl, Commissioner, Mr. Michael Di Giroloma, director of Operation, and Mr. Randy Dillion, president and chief executive of Construction and Management Technical service. Briefing them, Wing Commander Andy Mensah, director-general of GCAA, recounted the progress and development at the airport and its prospects for the future. He said the GCAA's track record and the economic climate are guarantees which they must take advantage of. The director-general noted that Ghana has become the gateway for the sub-region in line with Vision 2020, the government's blue print for socio-economic development. Wing Commander Mensah said about 70 million dollars will be needed for the second phase of the rehabilitation of the airport. To avoid delay in acquiring this lump sum, the project has been divided into lots to make it easier for financing by different bodies. Dr. Valdry, leader of the delegation, said they were encouraged by President Rawlings's investment promotion visit to America last year and they would endeavour to invest in the country. The delegation later inspected some facilities at the airport which included the northern and southern finger, duty free shop, the new arrival and immigration halls as well as the import and export halls at AFGO. During their five-day visit, they will call on President Rawlings and the ministers of Roads and Transport, Foreign Affairs and Tourism.
