Most streets across Ghana went agog immediately after the Chair of the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC), Charlotte Osei, declared Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as winner of the 2016 presidential elections.

Nana Akufo-Addo, according to Mrs Osei, polled 5, 716, 026 votes in 271 constituencies to emerge winner in his third presidential attempt. Celebrations on the streets of Bantama In the Ashanti Region, the stronghold of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), TV3‘s Benjamin Aidoo reported that pre-declaration jubilations were already underway before the EC “brought them the good news”.

TV3‘s Ibrahim Abubakar also reports from the same Region that both young and old were in joyous celebration mood at Afigya Zongo and Tech Junction. Takoradi, the Western Region capital town, was not left out as residents broke the night of silence, TV3’s Ebenezer Abakah reported, to celebrate the announcement that Nana Akufo-Addo has won the elections.

Takoradi Constituency was won by the NPP At Abeka in Accra, TV3’s Stanley Blewu reported that NPP supporters took to the streets to express their joy at the news.



He added that the celebrations on the streets caused vehicular traffic. In Tema, TV3’s Josephine Frempong reports that residents went agog at the news of Nana Akufo-Addo winning the elections. In both the Tema West and Tema East constituencies, wild jubilations were all over, she reported.

In the Central Region capital of Cape Coast, TV3‘s Spencer Kwabena Boateng Mensah reported that jubilant NPP supporters are dancing to tunes of Onaapo, one of the campaign songs of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He added that others are preparing to embark on a celebration march across the Cape Coast South Constituency.
