Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh aka Napo, has confessed to his Party losing the 2016 general election, following changes recently made by His Excellency John Dramani Mahama at the Flagstaff House.
Speaking on Eko Sii Sen, a political talk show on Asempa 94.7 FM on Tuesday, the Manhyia South MP said, as seasoned political operators, the recent appointments of Mr. Julius Debrah and Alhaji Baba Kamara as Chief of Staff and National Security Advisor respectively; is indeed worrying to the NPP.
According to him, the appointments of the two to the above-mentioned positions will mean that the NPP will have to work very hard if it is to win the 2016 election.
“I am terrified by the appointments of Julius Debrah and Baba Kamara. As grassroots persons, and given the caliber of people they are as politicians, the NPP will have to work very hard for the 2016 election. In fact, they are moderate politicians who do not engage in politics of insults; and am worried," Napo honestly stated, expressing how the two pose a threat to the electoral fortunes of his Party, come 2016.
“I know the two before entering into politics and I also must admit clearly that the NPP would have to work very hard to win the 2016 elections.
To be honest, I was praying that the President appoints some “buga-buga” persons to the positions under reference; but with Julius Debrah and Baba Kamara, the NPP must work hard”, the Manhyia South MP added.
Napo said, the 2016 elections will not be easy for the NPP to win if it makes “dumsor” its major campaign message, looking the capabilities of Mr. Debrah and Alhaji Baba Kamara in the political history of Ghana and how they appeal to both sides of the major political divide.
“We have to drum home all corruption allegations against government and its appointees for Ghanaians to believe that the country has no future as far as Mahama Administration is concerned,” Napo urged NPP.
He also pointed out that the appointment of Mr. Prosper Douglas Kwaku Bani in 2009 was inappropriate; in that, the Chief of Staff, not necessarily a legislator as is the case in the developed countries like the United States of America (USA), should be a party, a grassroots person; and all in all, someone who appeals to all the political divide and can approach persons - in either NPP or NDC- in times of problems for solution.
The Manhyia South MP also advised some youth to refrain from planning to demonstrate against the removal of Prosper Bani, “since it is not healthy for the democracy of this country”.
President John Dramani Mahama, in keeping with the powers conferred on him by the 1992 Constitution, early made some changes in his Government, particularly at the Flagstaff House.
Per the press release, Mr. Prosper Douglas Kwaku Bani, yet-to-be-appointed Ambassador Extraordinaire and Plenipotentiary, is replaced by Mr. Julius Debrah, as Chief of Staff and Alhaji Baba Kamara, a senior Presidential Staffer, also elevated to the position of National Security Advisor.
These changes are what has made Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, having sleepless nights, and calling on his Party folks to work extra hard or forget about the 2016 election.
