Nana B rejects early endorsements within NPP, calls for unity ahead of 2028 polls

The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, has expressed disapproval over the increasing trend of internal endorsements for presidential hopefuls within the party.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s on June 25, 2025, Nana B warned that such endorsements, especially from organised groups, risk dividing the party as it prepares for the 2028 general elections.

“We all want party cohesion. When former MMDCEs endorse one candidate and another group supports a different one, it creates unnecessary tension. That is why I don’t support such endorsements,” he said.

His comments come in the wake of recent declarations by some former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) backing specific flagbearer hopefuls.

Nana B described the public declarations as premature and cautioned that they could derail ongoing efforts to maintain unity within the party.

He revealed that the party leadership has scheduled a meeting with all presidential aspirants on July 3, 2025, to address the situation.

“This is one of the reasons the leadership of the party has called a for meeting with all presidential aspirants. We want to talk to them about the guidelines the National Council has approved and advise them to speak to their followers so that we can maintain some sanity before the elections,” he explained.

When asked whether he personally supports any of the aspirants, Nana B responded emphatically, that national executives are expected to remain neutral.

“I don’t have a choice. We, as national officers, do not have a preferred candidate. Whoever the party elects to lead us, we will fully support,” he stated.

He also clarified that no disciplinary action has been taken against the former MMDCEs involved, adding that the party hopes to resolve the matter through dialogue.

“We are not punishing anyone. This meeting is to help provide guidance so that everyone will be on the same page moving forward,” he indicated.
