NPP slams NDC government over unmet promises

Justin Frimpong Kodua is the General Secretary of the NPP

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has criticised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, accusing it of failing to fulfil key campaign promises.

Speaking at the launch of the amended party constitution on Wednesday December 3, 2025, Kodua said Ghanaians had given the NDC an ‘overwhelming mandate’ in the 2024 Election, expecting decisive action on issues such as illegal mining, governance reforms, and improved security.

“Nearly a year later, those expectations remain unmet,” he said, alleging that the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, has worsened and now poses an ‘existential threat’ to the nation’s environment.

Kodua further accused the government of deploying state agencies to intimidate political opponents and silence critical media voices.

“We have witnessed an escalation in abuse of incumbency and state-sponsored intimidation of political opponents in the media,” he stated.

The NPP official was particularly critical of the executive’s handling of the judiciary, citing the removal of former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo.

“Sadly, the judiciary, which should be the final defender of the rule of law, has been captured by the executive. Judges now fear dispensing justice impartially for fear of reprisals,” he added.

The launch of the amended constitution was attended by party executives and members, who have welcomed the changes as part of efforts to strengthen internal governance and party structures ahead of future elections.
