Suspected Armed Robbers Arrested At Tamale

A team of soldiers of the 6th Battalion of Infantry at Tamale recently arrested three persons suspected to be armed robbers during an operation along the Tamale-Kintampo Highway.

Upon their arrest, the suspects who were identified as Inusah Mohammed, Charles Awuni and Mohammed Saibu were escorted to their hideout at Sangani, a suburb of Tamale, where two other alleged accomplices, Issah Billah and Salifu Abu were also picked up.

87 pieces of wrapped rolls of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were retrieved from their hide out. Also retrieved were two pairs of scissors.

The suspects are helping the police in their investigations. In another development, the joint Police-Military Task Force engaged in anti- armed robbery operations within Accra has upon a tip-off arrested one Nana Asante, a suspected armed robber, at Agbogbloshie Market.

The suspect was allegedly involved in an earlier case of armed robbery at Swedru and had been on the police wanted list. Further, a joint Police-Military Task Force engaged in the fight against armed robbery in Kibi in the Eastern Region has arrested three persons, Emmanuel Tse Kwami, Prince Adusei and Ishmael Yaro for their alleged involvement in a robbery case.

One locally manufactured pistol, one single barrel rifle and four knives were retrieved from them.

On the environmental protection front, troops operating in the Winneba area recently impounded two vehicles, a Benz Bus loaded with 70 pieces of illegally sawn lumber and a Kia truck loaded with 49 beams.

The operatives and their vehicle loads were handed over to the police for further investigations. Another environmental protection task force operating within the Assin Fosu area, has also seized 550 pieces of illegally sawn timber.

Officials of the Forestry Department at Cape Coast have since taken custody of the timber.

Another Task Force operating in the Eastern Region has impounded a Kia Truck loaded with 196 pieces of illegally sawn Wawa boards at Obra Hoho.

The driver and other persons on board took to their heels when the task force confronted them.

One of the suspects was, however, arrested and handed over to officials of the Forestry Department at Koforidua, together with the truckload of wawa boards for further infestigations.
