NPP using visa scandal to divert attention - Rashid Tanko

Rashid Tanko-Computer has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of using a press conference on the 2026 FIFA World Cup visa scandal to divert public attention from its recent national conference.

The Deputy National Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) said the party had more pressing internal issues to address following its conference, which he described as a poor outing.

“This press conference was meant to cover up what happened on Saturday. I can tell you that conference was completely needless,” he said during a discussion on the visa scandal.

Tanko-Computer argued that the NPP’s decision to hold a press conference while matters arising from its national conference remained unresolved was an attempt to shift the public conversation.

“You go and have a national conference, not a constituency or regional one, and then in between you go for a press conference to be talking about matters when you still have something on the table to discuss about your conference, your executives, and you are running away from it,” he said on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV.

He further claimed that the party was holding frequent press conferences because it was facing internal difficulties.

“They have made their position very clear that it is only press conferences that will save them because the party is sinking. There are a lot of problems in the party,” he said.

Tanko-Computer maintained that the visa scandal was already under investigation and questioned the need for the NPP’s press conference while the process was ongoing.
