NPP needs a new leader; not new register – Koku

Deputy Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NPP), Koku Anyidoho, has charged the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to stop pushing for a new voters register, but rather focus on getting an effective leader to replace Nana Akufo-Addo.

According to him, Nana Akufo-Addo lacks the qualities of a good leader and is responsible for the deep-seated divisions in the party;, adding that, “Ghana does not need a new voters register, the NPP rather needs a new leader”.

The largest opposition party, the NPP, is leading the charge for a new voters register ahead of the 2016 general elections, insisting the current electoral album is fraught with anomalies.

The party claims its detailed research conducted on the register has unravelled nearly 80,000 foreign nationals registered on Ghana’s voters register which makes it not credible. The party has since forwarded its findings to the Electoral Commission.

The NPP’s claim prompted the EC to hold an initial discussion with the political parties last month and has scheduled another meeting with stakeholders on the 29th and 30th October, where all the political parties are expected to make their arguments for or against a new register.

But speaking on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM, Koku Anyhidoho stated that the NPP’s posture in relation to issues concerning the voters register is evidence that the party hasn’t got a solid case.

He maintained that the register is credible and must not be changed, but rather the NPP should take immediate steps to change its Presidential candidate who has become a big problem for the party.

“The problem is not with the voters register, but rather Nana Akufo Addo. NPP needs a new Leader, Nana Akufo-Addo has destroyed the party which ex-President Kufuor bequeathed to him.”
