General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah is fingering the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to be possibly behind the attempt on the life of President John Mahama.
He said the NPP, which has the ability to cord in a mentally sick man into its “Won Gbo” demonstration may well have the same ability to employ the services of a "madman" like Charles Antwi who wanted to kill the President to do its bidding.
The sentencing of the convict who is believed by a section of the public to be mentally unstable has sparked arguments over why the presiding Judge, Justice Francis Obiri failed to have Charles Antwi examined before he hurriedly jailed him.
Others including his family are pleading that he should be freed because he is sick.
Contrary to his earlier assertion that Charles Antwi is a lunatic, Johnson Asiedu Nketia on Okay FM’s "Ade Akye Abia" Morning Show insisted the incarcerated gunman must not be left off the hook because he was fully aware of what he intended to do.
He however expressed surprise that the strong defense put up for the convict in this case are all members of the NPP when he [Charles Antwi] had planned such an evil act against the leader of the country.
“I’ve monitored discussions on the various radio stations and I am amazed how the NPP always back this man who wanted to harm our President. The defence of this criminal is unfortunate and must cease."
“Do you remember that “Won Gbo” demonstration there was a madman leading it? Later, John Boadu said he knows how they organized to make the madman lead their demo….if the NPP can organize a demonstration and make a madman lead it, then why do we have to look further if a similar 'madman' is carrying a gun with the intent to kill the President?, he quizzed.
He added “this means it is possible the NPP is behind the assassination attempt on the President; the madman leading the demo was intended to get rid of the President and maybe the shortest way to rid of him is to assign another madman to kill him”.
Mr. Asiedu Nketia called for detailed investigations into the matter to establish who the possible conspirators may be.
