NPP does not wish Mahama dead - Karbo to NDC

Aspiring Member of Parliament For Lawra constituency, Anthony Abayifa Karbo has hit hard at the General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia for making disparaging remarks about the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The NDC General Secretary cited the NPP in the alleged assassination attempt on President John Dramani Mahama last Sunday.

According to the NDC General Secretary, popularly called General Mosquito, the NPP may have employed the services of a "madman" like Charles Antwi to kill the President.

He noted that if the NPP could fall on a mentally deranged person in its "Won Gbo" demonstration; then the party could as well hire Charles Antwi to do its bidding and ensure that the President does not live to see the end of his tenure.

“I’ve monitored discussions on the various radio stations and I am amazed how the NPP always back this man who wanted to harm our President. The defense of this criminal is unfortunate and must cease."

“Do you remember that “Won Gbo” demonstration there was a madman leading it? Later, John Boadu said he knows how they organized to make the madman lead their demo….if the NPP can organize a demonstration and make a madman lead it, then why do we have to look further if a similar 'madman' is carrying a gun with the intent to kill the President?, he quizzed on Okay FM's "Ade Akye Abia" Morning show.

But in a quick response to General Mosquito, Anthony Karbo stressed on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" that the NPP will never nurse such "evil motives" for the Presidency.

According to him, the NPP as any Ghanaian pray for the wellbeing of the President and only look forward to seeing him being ousted from government legitimately by the electorates.

He however wondered if General Mosquito's comments represent the ruling National Democratic Congress' (NDC) position on the alleged assassination attempt.

“We in the NPP want to make it absolutely clear. We have no intention. It is our business to protect the Presidency. To protect John Mahama to make sure that the man will see the end and that is what we’re waiting for. We, the NPP, and all Ghanaians and I believe any sound logical Ghanaian would want to see the end of his 2016 four-year term of our President.”

“I think that General Secretary Nketia, he is a very consummate politician…And I don’t think this the way to go. This is not the way to go. We need to elevate the debate…As a General Secretary, when he says something like this; it is as though this is the official position of the party. I mean how do you draw this into it? I cannot understand it. I can’t imagine that this is the official position of the NDC.”

He further questioned General Mosquito's logic for fabricating such stories about the NPP.

“Where does this thought come from...The politics that we’re doing as an opposition party is not to kill anybody; is not to assassinate any person? Why would we want to assassinate anybody? For what reason? And you can have the General Secretary; so this is the official position of the NDC. Is that it? Is that the official position of the National Democratic Congress that indeed the NPP has to be questioned in this matter? I mean where have we gotten to? Is this how cheap our politics can become?

“Who will benefit if the President is assassinated? Who will benefit…For the General Secretary of the NDC to cite the NPP in this matter, who will benefit?” he quizzed.
