The planned demonstration by ‘Concerned Customers and Sympathisers of DKM Diamond Microfinance Ltd., God is Love Fun Club, And Other Microfinance Companies’ in the Brong Ahafo Region on Saturday September 17 is a “campaign strategy” of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to court disaffection for President John Mahama and the NDC in the area, the governing party’s General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia has said.

The group members, whose investments have been locked up in the various firms, scheduled a nationwide demonstration on the same day the NDC will be launching its manifesto in the region.

Reacting to the planned demonstration on Ghana Yensom on Accra100.5FM on Friday September 16, Mr Asiedu Nketia said the NPP was behind the agitations of the DKM victims.

He noted that the NPP legislators in the region began politicising the microfinance fraud by lying to the aggrieved customers that DKM belonged to First Lady Lordina Mahama.

Mr Nketia wondered why anybody would blame the government for an individual investment decision that had gone bad. “Should we use the taxpayers’ money to pay for someone’s investment that has gone bad?” he asked.

In his opinion, the NPP has no campaign message for the people in the region and, therefore, are hiding behind the microfinance fraud to stage demonstrations and to perpetrate lies about the NDC.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has stopped the aggrieved customers from going ahead with their planned demonstration arguing that they have to provide security for the NDC during their campaign launch.
